The latest CDC update (June 2) for return to work for COVID + health care personnel (HCP) is “symptom”based. For mild illness it is as follows:

HCP with mild to moderate illness who are not severely immunocompromised May return to work if:

At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared and
At least 24 hours have passed since last fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and
Symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath) have improved.

The update states that no repeat testing is required for this category of illness.

I have a surgeon who wants to apply the same criteria to a patient who requires semi-urgent hand surgery under local anesthesia at my ASC. No airway manipulation or aerosolization is apparently expected.
I am inclined to side with him. Any strong arguments against? The surgeon is fast, competent and does not “lie to get his way.” He has no hospital privileges, thus, wants to do at my ASC.
