In light of the pandemic, is it considered potentially harmful to administer IV dexamethasone to elective surgery patients as part of PONV prophylaxis?

The recommendations by the SSC COVID-19 subcommittee article obviously address much higher doses of steroids given to sick patients...
“Because of the limitations of the data and because we’re not sure what the effect of systemic steroid treatment is in COVID-19 patients, we issued a weak recommendation not to use systemic corticosteroids in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia,” he said. (Anesthesiology News)

Answered on the ASAhq.org FAQ

In general, low doses/single dose dexamethasone would not be regarded as clinically significant or sustained immunosuppression. Each patient is unique and we cannot comment on individual patient treatment options or anesthesia plans. To our knowledge, there is no clinical data on deciding whether to use or not use a single dose of dexamethasone in COVID-19 patients.
